Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) set her second milestone of the week recording her 1,000
th kill as the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team went 1-1 on day two of a North Eastern Athletic Conference crossover hosted by Penn State Berks. Penn College went to five sets for the win against Cazenovia but fell 3-1 to Keuka College. Gernert, in thrilling fashion, recorded her 1,000
th kill against Cazenovia on match point of the fifth set. With the split, the Lady Wildcats are now 11-15 overall and 5-7 in conference.
Against Cazenovia, the teams went back and forth with Penn College coming out on top 22-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-11, 15-8. Gernert led with 19 kills while freshman
Samantha Pogash (Saint Clair) totaled 14. Helping out the offense was freshman
Sophie Coldsmith (Gettysburg) who notched 40 assists. Gernert was also strong defensively with 21 of the team's 50 digs.
The team's net game was also on point totaling five blocks with Coldsmith totaling four block assists and freshman
Bridgette O'Leary (Altoona) adding three.
Against Keuka, Penn College played strong but lost in four sets 17-25, 14-25, 25-21, 18-25. Gernert again led the offense with 10 kills while Coldsmith had 31 assists.
As a team, the Lady Wildcats were on the defense with 67 digs. Pogash led with 15 and Gernert had 14. Coldsmith and freshman
Kaitlyn Young (Harrisonburg, Va.) added 12 and 11, respectively.
Next up, Penn College concludes its regular season with a match against Susquehanna University on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.
