Women’s Volleyball: Lady Wildcats Win Fourth Straight with Sweep at Tri-Match

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team won its third and fourth straight games going 2-0 as it hosted Penn State Harrisburg and King's College for a tri-match Saturday.  The Lady Wildcats swept Harrisburg 3-0 and fought to win 3-2 against King's dealing the Monarch's their first loss of the season.  Senior Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) led the team totaling 25 kills between the two games while freshman Bridgette O'Leary (Altoona) totaled 17 in her first two games in a Penn College uniform.  Freshman Sophie Coldsmith (Gettysburg) continued to set up the plays nicely with 63 assists on the day.  The win now improves the team to 4-2 overall.
 
Penn College's toughest match of the day came against King's College (3-1).  They controlled play in the first two sets winning 25-20 and 25-18.  The Monarch's regrouped though and took the next two sets with some late runs winning 25-19 and 25-19.  Despite King's taking an early lead in the deciding set, Penn College fought through to squeak out the win 15-13.
 
Gernert had 14 kills in the game and O'Leary had nine.  Five Lady Wildcats were in double-figure digs with Gernert totaling 21, freshman Samantha Pogash (St. Clair) 18, freshman Felicia Webber (Perry County, Pa.) 13 and Coldsmith and freshman Kaitlyn Young (Harrisonburg, Va.) each with 12. 
 
Against PSU Harrisburg (0-6), the Lady Wildcats were dominant taking the sets 25-16, 25-17, 25-19.  Gernert led all hitters with 11 kills with O'Leary adding eight.  Coldsmith came close to her season high with 31 assists.  She and Gernert each had eight digs to lead the team. 
 
Penn College was strong with its net game totaling nine block assists with O'Leary and Coldsmith teaming up for four total blocks.  The team was firing on all cylinders in set three totaling 14 team kills. 
 
In the other match of the day, King's defeated Penn State Harrisburg 3-0.
 
Next up, Penn College hosts Alfred State on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
