Wildcats Fall in Tr-Meet
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Penn College dropped a pair of wrestling matches Saturday at a tri-meet hosted by Ursinus College. The Wildcats fell to Centenary, 47-4, and Ursinus, 42-10.
Inside the Box: Against Centenary,
Dylan Gettys won the lone Penn College winner with a 9-1 major decision at 165.
Jared Mooney lost a close match, 4-3, at 197. He was up 2-0 early with a takedown, gave up an escape and a takedown to end the first down 3-2. Mooney surrendered an escape in the second to go down 4-2 and picked up a stall point in the third, but was ridden out the whole third period and lost 4-3.
Against Ursinus, Gettys got his second bonus point victory of the day with a 12-0 major decision win, while Luke O'Connor added a fall at 141.
Ryan Bauer lost a close 7-5 decision in OT at 133.
Quotable: "We decided before we got off the bus that we weren't going to make excuses for ourselves, but the reality is we were missing 10 guys from our lineup today," Penn College coach
Jamie Miller explained. "It's tough to win at this level when you're down that many guys and giving up two forfeits. Today was about effort and the team score shouldn't take away from the effort we gave - especially those that were asked to wrestle up a weight class (Schreck, Shultz and O'Connor). We are looking forward to getting all our starters back and heading into next weekend with a little more fire power."
Up Next: Penn College will host Scranton, York College, and Washington & Lee in a quadrangular starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.
