Penn College Goes 1-2
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College finished 1-2 at its own quad match Saturday to improve to 6-17. The Wildcats beat Lackawanna College, 27-24, and fell to Oswego, 38-7, and Washington and Jefferson 37-11.
Against Washington and Jefferson,
Ryan Bauer picked up Penn College's first win with a 17-2 technical fall at 133. W&J won the next two with bonus points before
Jason Penton earned a thrilling 14-12 overtime decision at 165.
Jared Mooney earned the Wildcats final win with a 12-5 decision at 184.
Against Lackawanna,
Following a forfeit to Penn College at 133, Lackawanna built a 12-6 lead with consecutive falls at 141 and 149. The Wildcats regained the lead after a 14-8 decision by Erik Schrek at 157 and Penton's pin at 165. The teams traded forfeits at 174 and 184 to keep PC ahead, 21-18. LC took a 24-21 lead with a pin at 197 before
Ty Stahli sealed the win with a pin at heavyweight for Penn College.
Against Oswego,
Matt Carpenter earned Penn College' first win with an 8-1 decision at 141 and Mooney picked up the second victory, following his 12-0 major decision at 184.
Outside the Box: "This weekend was tough on our guys. We took some injuries in last night's dual that resulted in three starters out of the lineup, and lost another in our first match today," Penn College coach
Jamie Miller said. "The guys who stepped in wrestled incredibly well for us. Schreck headlined the day wrestling up a weight class at 157. Penton held his own against some tough guys at 165. Our 141 pounders – Carpenter and Shultz – both wrestled hard.
"Stahli has been wrestling banged up for the last few weeks and not only bailed out the rest of our lineup against Lackawanna, but wrestled a really nice match against Oswego. Our schedule doesn't get any easier at the end of the season so we have to take a few days to get back to full strength and get back at it on Tuesday."
