LANSING, Mich. — Penn College freshman Casey Keiter became the 44th Wildcat to earn an All-American honor as the USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals wrapped up Saturday at Lansing, Michigan.
How it happened: Keiter earned the distinction as a result of his top 10 indoor (9.867) and outdoor (9.208) national scores (19.075 total) in the men's fixed pins discipline.
Inside the box: In team competition at the outdoor nationals, the fixed pins team of Keiter, Josiah Hinojos and Wyatt Steigerwalt qualified sixth and reached the quarterfinals, as did the men's compound team of Eli Bartron, Emery Gunsallus and Brady Buriak.
Individually in men's fixed pins, Keiter qualified 14th and was eliminated in the round of 16, Hinojos qualified 21st and lost in the quarterfinal round, Steigerwalt qualified 34th and lost in the round of 32, Ben Malehorn qualified 43rd and lost in the round of 32, Devin Albright qualified 45th and lost in the round of 32, Travis Lilly qualified 46th and lost in the round of 32, Anthony Olenchak qualified 49th and lost in the quarterfinal round, and Wyatt Kennedy qualified 64th and lost in the round of 32.
Individually in men's compound, Bartron qualified 19th and reached the quarterfinal round, Gunsallus qualified 32nd and reached the round of 16, Buriak qualified 35th and lost in the quarterfinals, and Colby Dell qualified 44th and reached the round of 16.
In women's barebow, Liz Gruodis qualified 33rd and reached the round of 16.
Coach speak: "It is great to have an all-American and two Academic All-Americans (Keiter and Hinojos) this year," Dustin Bartron said.
"With all archers returning, we are looking forward to having a strong foundation to build from. Many of this weekend's losses came down to being decided by one bad arrow shot during the match. With the strength and experience this group gained this season, I am excited for next year."
