WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Penn College fell to Lycoming, 5-2, in a nonconference women's tennis match on Friday. The Wildcats picked up singles wins at No. 3 and No. 4 and added a victory in the No. 2 doubles match. Penn College fell to 0-1 overall while Lycoming moved to 1-0.
How it happened: Lycoming earned the doubles point with wins at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles. Agi Gecsey and Anna Booze won by default against No player and No player at No. 3, and Sadie Stahl and Emma Dubnansky defeated Emma Fox and
Leah Vest 6-0 at No. 1 to clinch the point. Penn College added a doubles win at No. 2, where
Faith Murray and
Kiera Wene defeated Erica Gilligan and Yeanneth Rosado 6-3.
Lycoming carried a 1-0 lead into singles and moved ahead 3-0 after Erica Gilligan won by default against No player at No. 5 and Anna Booze won by default against No player at No. 6. The Wildcats answered at No. 4 singles, where Wene defeated Agi Gecsey 6-0, 6-0 to make it 3-1.
Sadie Stahl then defeated Fox 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 1 singles to clinch the dual for Lycoming at 4-1. In post-clinch matches, Murray earned Penn College's second point with a 3-6, 6-0, 11-9 win over Yeanneth Rosado at No. 3, before Emma Dubnansky defeated Vest 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 at No. 2 to close Lycoming's 5-2 decision.
