Matt Blymier was named Assistant Director of Athletics/Athletic Communications & Compliance at Penn College in November 2014.
Blymier served as the department's Interim Director of Athletics during the 2021-22 academic year. During that time, he coordinated the renovations of the Klingerman Family Athletics Suite and the remodel of the wrestling mat room. Blymier also developed and executed the COVID-19 testing and mitigation strategies for the department in alignment with NCAA requirements.Â
Blymier is responsible for promoting Penn College's 14 Division III programs, and two other intercollegiate teams through the department's website, email alerts, social media and publications. In addition to his Communications duties, Blymier is in charge of NCAA and United East compliance and assisting in scheduling contests, buses, hotels and officials.. He is the department's liaison for BSN Sports, Penn College's official provider of Nike uniforms and served as the SAAC advisor in 2014-15.
Blymier previously served as the Chair of the North Eastern Athletic Conference Compliance committee and as the Chair of the North Eastern Athletic Conference's Sports Information Director committee from 2016-2018. He has served on Penn College's Student Engagement Taskforce, Bias Education and Support Team and is a member of the One College Avenue editorial team. He is also a member of the Williamsport City Recreation Commission.Â
During his time at Penn College, Blymier has significantly enhanced the communications efforts of the athletics department. In 2016, Blymier added high definition webcasts to most home athletics events, and launched a sports-specific online store. After initiating and coordinating the College’s efforts for a new athletics logo in 2017, Blymier completed the first redesign of pctwildcats.com, which included offering live stats for most home athletic home events.
In 2017, Blymier implemented FrontRush, a compliance, recruiting, and student-athlete management software, for the athletics department, and initiated Penn College’s first strength & conditioning program for student-athletes utilizing Volt Athletics.

Prior to Penn College, Blymier spent two years at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine as the Assistant Director of Athletics/Sports Information Director where he was responsible for the promotion of the Mariners’ 11 Division III programs as well as the facilities coordinator. During his time at Maine Maritime, Blymier upgraded the department’s live web streaming, developed the department’s first identity guide, had a new secondary logo created and launched an athletics online store, which provided an additional source of revenue to the department.

Lancaster Sunday News, Pennsylvania’s fifth-largest newspaper, for six years. He has covered various sports, focusing primarily on lacrosse, football and wrestling on both the college and prep levels. He helped develop the paper’s online media efforts, spearheading the charge into online video through his lacrosse blog, and established the Sports Section’s Facebook and Twitter presence. He has extensive layout and design experience, developed in building the sports section and assisting in the production of special tabloid sections.

His experience in the intercollegiate athletic setting began when he served as a Sports Information Assistant at Franklin & Marshall College. In that capacity, he served as the primary contact for six of the Diplomats’ 28 sports, designed and produced department publications, and provided color commentary for games on the streaming platform. In addition to his internship at F&M, Blymier provided three years of work as a contractor for the school, providing in-game statistical coverage for football, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, field hockey and wrestling.

Blymier earned his M.S. in Sport Management for California University (PA) in 2014 and a B.S. in Speech Communications from Millersville University in 2005, where he concentrated in Broadcasting and minored in Athletic Coaching. He also spent three years as an Assistant Football Coach at Donegal High School in Mt. Joy, Pa.Â
