Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior
Valeria Passalacqua (McAlisterville) scored two goals but the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's soccer team fell 4-2 to Lycoming College in the fifth annual Battle for the Lumber Wednesday. The game was tied 1-1 in the first half before the Warriors scored two quick goals to go into the half 3-1. With the game at 4-2, Passalacqua scored in the 88
th to give her team a spark, but it was too late to mount any type of comeback. Sophomore keeper
Colleen Bowes (Wayne) made 15 saves in the loss that drops the team to 4-8 overall.
Lycoming's (3-7) Jordan Lazarich scored her first of three goals in the game in the 24
th. Just four minutes later Passalacqua crossed a ball past a diving Joelle Winey to make it 1-1 with just under 17 to go. Shayna Iacoviello and Lazarich proceeded to net balls in the 30
th and 40
th minutes, respectively, to make it a two-goal advantage.
Winey ended the game with six saves. In the half, the Warriors outshot Penn College 14-5.
The Lady Wildcats came out stronger in the second half outshooting Lycoming 14-11. After Lazarich scored her third goal in in the 80
th, Passalacqua took a pass from freshman
Caitlin McCarthy (State College) to score her final goal of the game.
Lycoming holds a 3-2 record over the Lady Wildcats for the Battle for the Lumber.
Next up, Penn College hosts Penn State Berks on Saturday, Oct. 4 for a 1 p.m. match.
