Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College picked up its second straight win with an 89-79 victory over Wilson College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 2-5, 1-1 NEAC, while the Phoenix fell to 1-4, 0-2.
Three players recorded double-doubles for Penn College, led by
Kevin Laurence-El's 22 points and 13 rebounds.
Ezra Adams scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and
Thomas Ross netted 13 and pulled down 14 boards.
Nathaniel Brown netted 21 points for the Wildcats, had eight rebounds and finished with four steals.
Rahim Bunch led Wilson with 22 points, Tyler Smallcomb added 16, Ben Holl 14 and Rasul Jackson 11.
With the game evened for the third time, 14-14, with 10:02 left in the first half, Wilson used 14-3 scoring run to rake a 28-17 lead with 6:41 on the clock. Penn College responded with a 9-2 run, led by Adams' five points, to pull within four, 30-26, with four minutes left. The Phoenix built their lead to nine with 1:33 left before Brown scored four straight points in the final minute to get Penn College within five, 40-35, at halftime.
The Phoenix increased their lead to nine, 49-40, early in the second half before Penn College answered with 11 straight points – five from Brown, four by Laurence-El and two by
Joseph Mangiero – to take a 51-49 lead with 14:28 left in the game. After three more ties over the next seven minutes, Wilson took its final lead, 66-63, with 6:49 left in the game. The Wildcats quickly erased their deficit with buckets by Laurence-El and Adams and never trailed the remainder of the game.
Penn College returns to action Friday, 7 p.m., at Penn State-Berks.
