Women's Volleyball: Gernert Leads Offense in Win

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – Junior Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) notched 17 kills, six service aces and 10 digs to help the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team beat Valley Forge Christian College 3-1 Thursday. The Lady Wildcats took the sets 26-24, 19-25, 25-14, 25-13. Freshman Cathleen Aviles (Robesonia) added 25 assists in the win while senior Rachel Heller (Allison Park) was strong on defense with 18 digs. With the win, Penn College improves to 3-8 overall.

In set one, Penn College trailed the Patriots through most of the game but managed a run at 23-19 to snatch the win away. After dropping set two, the team regrouped to easily take the next two sets.

Also for the Lady Wildcats, sophomore Loralee Lindemuth (Tidioute) had 12 kills and freshman Sarah Fegley (Danville) had three blocks.

Next up, Penn College travels to Penn State Wilkes Barre on Monday, Sept. 23 for a 6 p.m. match.
