Box Score ALFRED, N.Y. - Penn College rallied from a 14 point halftime deficit but came up short in a 48-43 setback to Alfred State in a non-conference men's basketball game Monday. The Wildcats dropped to 2-12, while the Pioneers improved to 2-13.
Nathaniel Brown led Penn College with 10 points and
Ezra Adams grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.
Tom Hutson paced Alfred State with 10 points.
The Pioneers jumped out to an early 8-2 lead before the Wildcats rallied to even the score, 12-12, on a
Kevin Laurence-El three with 12:40 left in the first half. Alfred State quickly regained the lead and led by as many as 16 points before taking a 34-20 advantage into halftime.
Penn College opened the second half with a 14-5 scoring run - led by Brown's six points - to pull within five, 39-34. The Wildcats got with two points twice, the first coming on a
Thomas Ross layup at 6:04 and the second when Brown's jumper made it 45-43 with 2:49 left in the game. The Pioneers kept a slim lead for the rest of the half and converted 3 of 4 from the line in the final 20 seconds to ice the game.
Penn College returns to action Thursday, 8 p.m., hosting Bryn Athyn.
