WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Alfred State overcame a 29-27 halftime deficit to knock off Penn College 77-71 in a non-conference men's basketball game Wednesday. The Pioneers improved to 2-7, while the Wildcats fell to 0-4.

Kevin Laurence-El netted a game-high 26 points for Penn College, while Thomas Ross recorded his second consecutive double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Johnson also finished in double figures with 12 points for Penn College.

Dante Jordan and Marquis Edwards each scored 13 for Alfred State and Quadrelle Roberts finished with 11.

Penn College opened the game with an eight point lead after Ross' trey at 15:06 made it 12-4. The Pioneers pulled within five points four times over the next 10 minutes of the game, the final time coming at 5:42 to make it 20-15. After a Marquis Delgado layup put the Wildcats ahead 22-15, the Pioneers scored four straight to get within three, 22-19 with 4:05 left before the break. A free throw from Johnson, and a layup by Ross gave PCT a 25-19 edge with three minutes left in the first, before Alfred State used an 8-2 run to pull within two, 29-27, at halftime.

The Pioneers evened the game, 31-31, early in the second and eventually took an eight point lead 57-49 after a Dior Dixon layup with 8:43 left in the game. Penn College rallied to pull as close as two, 59-57, on Bryce Lonsway's layup at 5:48 and later within one, 64-63, on Johnson's traditional three-point play with 2:47 left in the game. Alfred answered with five straight points and its lead never dipped below four the remainder of the game.

Alfred State turned 19 turnovers into 16 points, while Penn College managed just six points off of turnovers. The Pioneers received 48 points from their bench, while the Wildcats recorded 10 second chance points.

Penn College returns to action Saturday, 1 p.m., when it opens conference play hosting Wilson College.
