AURORA, N.Y. – Penn College surrendered a second half lead en route to a 68-58 setback to Wells College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats dropped to 3-18 overall, 2-12 NEAC, while the Express improved 7-15, 7-7.
Antony Griffin led Penn College with 13 points and
Cass Wisniewski added 12.
Jordan Jean led all scorers with 14 points for Wells.
After the Express took a 9-2 lead five minutes into the game, the Wildcats pulled within one, 11-10, after an 8-2 scoring run – paced by Wisniewski's four points – with 12:46 on the clock.
Nathaniel Brown's jumper at 9:57 evened the contest at 15-15 before Wisniewski's layup a minute later put the Wildcats ahead 22-18. Following two more deadlocks, Penn College regained the lead, 31-27, after a
Joseph Mangiero trey with 3:52 left before the break. After two more ties, Wells led 39-36 at halftime.
The Wildcats opened the second with on an 8-0 scoring run and led 44-39 after a
Thomas Ross three with 17:36 left in the game. Penn College kept a five point advantage after Wisniewski's layup at 15:19 before Wells rallied to even the game two minutes later. The Express outscored Penn College 15-5 in the final 13 minutes of the game to secure the win.
The Wildcats return to action Sunday, 3 p.m., at Keuka.
