Wildcats End Season on Winning Note



BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Penn College won its second straight game with a 72-64 decision over Bryn Athyn in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball Saturday. The Wildcats concluded their season at 12-8 NEAC, 13-12 overall, while Lions ended their season at 6-14, 7-18.

Despite finishing with the sixth-best record in the conference and fourth in the South Division, Penn College did not make the seven-team NEAC tournament. Cazenovia (8-10) earned the third seed from the North Division and Wells College (8-10), which held the head-to-head tiebreaker over Penn College, picked up the No. 7 seed. College of Saint Elizabeth (11-9) was the other team with a winning record that did not reach the NEAC postseason.

Alicia Ross paced the Wildcats with 21 points, Danielle Mowery added 15, Charese Bova 14 and Anna-Marie Raybuck finished with 10. Bova also grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.

Kristina Clark led Bryn Athyn with a game-high 27 points.

The opening seven minutes of the game featured four deadlocks, the final coming with the game knotted at 12-12 with 13:12 left in the opening half. Bryn Athyn used an 8-0 spurt to take a 20-12 lead with 11:24 on the clock. The Wildcats countered with a 9-1 run to tie the game again, 21-21, and tacked on seven straight points to cap a 16-1 scoring run and a 28-21 lead with 3:42 left before the half. Penn College led 30-26 at halftime.

After the Wildcats took a 34-28 lead, the Lions rallied with six straight points to even the game again, 34-34, with 17 minutes left in the game. After two more ties, Bryn Athyn took a 54-48 lead with 8:41 left before Penn College managed to deadlock the game again, after a Ross three made it 58-58 with 5:15 left in the game. Evened again at 62-62 with 2:37, Penn College gained separation with a 6-0 run and led 68-62 with 49 seconds left in the game.
