Penn College Falls to Abington


ABINGTON, Pa. – Penn College dropped a pair of games conference-leading Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Sunday. The Wildcats fell to 5-12 overall, 1-3 NEAC, while the Lions improved to 9-13, 6-0.

In Game One,
Penn College took an early 2-0 lead with a run in the first and second innings. Zach Weil plated Jeremy Rall with a single in the first and Carlos Rodriguez brought in Dylan Scaringi on a groundout in the second.

The Lions added a run in the third and fifth innings to tie the game at 2-2 before plating three runs in the sixth inning to take their first lead, 5-2, of the game. Weil put his team within two when launched his NEAC-leading fourth home run this season in the seventh inning.

It was

Penn State Abington tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings to lead 8-5. Penn College picked up RBI singles from Cole Weachock and Deric Ellerman in the ninth inning.

Rall finished with three hits for the Wildcats, while Weil, Weachock, James Simasek and Ellerman each had two hits. Tyler Cooklin took the loss after 5.1 innings of work, which included two strikeouts and four runs (two earned).

In Game Two,
Abington added three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth for the only runs scored in the game. Ted Smallwood fired seven innings for the Nittany Lions, scattering just four hits, striking out six and walking four. Kyle Fox took the loss for the Wildcats after throwing 4.1 innings, with five strikeouts and all five runs.

Weil picked up his 100th career hit for Penn College.

Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 2 p.m., hosting Baptist Bible College.
