MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Penn College picked up its first win this season with a 1-0 shutout over Morrisville State in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's soccer match Friday. The Wildcats improved to 1-0 NEAC, 1-2-1 overall, while the Mustangs dropped to 0-1, 1-2.
Robyn Beddow broke the scoreless deadlock in the 69
th minute after being fouled in the box and connecting on the penalty kick. The Wildcats peppered Morrisville's goalie Angela Marriott with several more shots in the final 20 minutes but couldn't break through. Beddow was stopped in the 70
th minute and
Lauren Herr missed high a minute later.
Hailee Hartman sent two balls towards the goal in the 80
th minute but Marriott got a piece of both attempts.
Penn College finished with 23 shots (13 on goal) and limited Morrisville to just four shots. The Wildcats offensive pressure led to 12 corner kicks, while their defense held the Mustangs to just one corner.
Marriott finished 12 saves and
Hailey Heistand stopped two shots to earn her first collegiate win in goal for Penn College.
The Wildcats return to action Sunday, 2 p.m., hosting Westminster.
