BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Sarah Lawrence separated itself from a close contest in the final minutes of the game en route to a 90-80 win over Penn College in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday. The Wildcats fell to 1-1, while the Gryphons improved to 1-2.
Tyree Vidal led the Wildcats with 14 points, while
Ben Sosa added 10 points and 10 rebounds – his second double-double this season.
Marquis Delgado and
Thomas Ross both finished nine points for Penn College.
Sarah Lawrence had six players reach double figures in scoring, led by Sam Radosavjevic's game-high 19 points.
Penn College took its final lead of the game when Delgado finished off a steal with layup to give the Wildcats a 68-65 lead with 7:09 left in the game. SL answered with a 9-1 run, spanning five minute, to take a 74-69 advantage with 5:17 on the clock. Penn College got within three twice, the final coming after
Erik Eichinger's long ball with 3:23 left to make it 78-75. The Gryphons closed out the game with a 12-5 spurt.
The Wildcats stormed out to a 19-6 lead in the opening six minutes of the game, sparked by two treys from Landon Muller. The Gryphons countered with a 16-0 scoring run and took a 22-19 lead with 10:56 left in the opening quarter. Sarah Lawrence held the lead for the next eight minutes before PCT regained the advantage on a three from
Shaekwon Grant-Wheeler and a layup by
Matthew Salvent to make it 39-36 with 2:04 left before halftime. Penn College led 42-38 at halftime.
