The first half featured five deadlocks and several lead changes for the majority of the period. The final tie occurred after a shot by the Pioneers with 2:24 left before the break. Penn College closed out the half with an 11-2 run – led by five points from Vidal -- to lead 46-37 at halftime.

The Pioneers opened the second half with 11-straight points and regained their lead, 48-46, with 17:27 left in the game. Vidal's three with 13:04 left put the Wildcats ahead 57-52 before the game was tied seven more times. After the Pioneers tied the game at 84, and went ahead 85-84 with 19 seconds left, Sosa sank his free throws.
