BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Bryn Athyn used a strong fourth quarter en route to a 74-61 win against Penn College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats fell to 0-2 NEAC, 0-5 overall, while the Lions improved to 2-0, 4-1.
Maddie Wenk shared game-high honors with 22 points, on 7 of 14 shooting, including 6 of 10 from long distance.
Alicia Ross finished with 21 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
Kristina Clark led Bryn Athyn with 22 points, while three other teammates reached double figures in scoring.
Trailing 14-5 midway through the first quarter, Penn College closed out the first on a 7-2 run – paced by three points each from Wenk and Ross – to close the gap to 17-12. A 6-0 run late in the second quarter put Penn College within one, 29-28, on
Gwendolyn Lavelle's layup with 53 seconds on the clock. Ross tied the game at 31 on a trey with 28 seconds left before the Lions added a late jumper to take a 33-31 halftime lead.
Wenk tied the game again early in the third when her three made it 34-34 with 8:19 left in the period. The Lions gained separation with a 6-0 run before threes from
Jane Herman and Wenk tied the game at 45 with 1:04 left in the third. Bryn Athyn sank a pair of free throws to lead 47-45 at the end of the third.
The Lions outscored Penn College 27-16 in the fourth quarter.
Penn College returns to action Sunday, 12 p.m., at Penn State-Abington.
