Wildcats Split with SUNY Poly

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College won one of two games in a North Eastern Athletic Conference softball doubleheader against SUNY Poly Sunday. PCT improved to 5-1 NEAC, 11-8 overall after a 9-5 setback in the first game and a 3-0 win in the nightcap.

In game one,
Poly did all of its damage in the first inning with nine runs – including a grand slam – to take an early 9-0 lead.

Penn College got a run back in the first on Maddie Wenk's RBI single. Kelsey Gantz picked up a RBI in the third and two in the seventh, while Nicole Lo Furno smacked a RBI single in the seventh for Penn College.

Taylor Brooks and Gantz both finished with three hits, while Wenk picked up a pair of hits.

Amanda Kustanbauter fell to 5-4 after 1/3 innings of work. She allowed seven runs on five hits.

In game two,
Penn College benefitted from timely hitting a superb pitching from Brooks in the second game.

PCT added all of the runs it needed in the third when Gantz scored Brooks with single and Elizabeth Asher roped a two-run double to right that plated Gantz and Lo Furno.

Gantz led PCT with two hits.

Brooks improved to 4-2 after her third-straight win. She fired a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits, while walking six and striking out eight.

Prior to Sunday's games, Lo Furno and Samantha Hill were honored in a Senior Day Ceremony.

Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 3 p.m., at Alfred University.
