WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Elmira College used a 24-point fourth quarter to separate from a one-possession contest in a 63-49 win over Penn College in a non-conference women's basketball game Monday. The Eagles improved to 4-0, while the Wildcats fell to 1-4.
Jane Herman led Penn College with 13 points on 5 of 8 shooting. Cassi Kuhns added 12 points and a team-best nine rebounds, while Aniah Ellerbee netted nine for PCT. Gwendolyn Lavell finished with a game-high five assists.
Danielle Cleary scored a game-high 22 points, Lindsey Heaton added 14, and Rachel Vespucci contributed 12 for Elmira.
The Eagles built a 16-9 lead in the first quarter and led 32-22 at halftime.
After Elmira took a 34-24 lead with 8:06 left in the third, but the Wildcats responded with 13-5 run to end the quarter within two, 39-37. Kuhns paced the run with six points for PCT and Ellerbee added five to help the Wildcats pull within a possession.
Tori Wolfe's layup early in the fourth kept it a two-point game, 41-39, but Elmira answered with a 9-0 spurt to lead 49-39 with 7:16 left in the game. Elmira led by the double-digits the majority of the remainder of the game.
Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 8 p.m., at Keuka College.
