READING, P.A. – Penn College returned to the diamond for a pair of conference games against defending North Eastern Athletic Conference champions Penn State Berks Sunday. The Wildcats won the first game 15-6, and Berks took the nightcap 19-4. The split leaves the Wildcats at 11-6 overall, 3-1 NEAC.
In game one,
Penn College jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with a RBI single from
Ben Flicker and a two-run single from
Richard Lennon. The Wildcats continued to dominate the early innings tacking on three more runs in the second inning. Flicker plated two runners with a single and
Brittan Kittle drove home the sixth run with an RBI single.
The Penn College offensive onslaught continued in the third, scoring four more runs with RBIs by
Nathaniel Lowe and
Cole Hofmann. The Wildcats also scored two unearned runs in the inning. Berks DH Tyler Comport drove in one run with a double in the bottom half to open the scoring for the Lions.
Timely two out hitting led to a big fourth inning for the Wildcats. Penn College scored all five of its runs in the frame with two outs.
Noah Esposito picked up his first RBI of the game with a single to left center and Lowe, Flicker and Kittle knocked in the other four runs to add to their already big games.
After a scoreless fifth, Penn State Berks score five runs in the sixth but never threatened to bring the game within striking distance.
The top of the Wildcat lineup feasted in game one with the one through four hitters going a combined 12-16 with 10 RBIs. Leadoff hitter
Nathaniel Lowe went 5 for 5 with a double and a triple,
Ben Flicker had three hits and Cole Hoffman and
Brittan Kittle each had two.
Bradley Walter picked up his first win of the season going five innings and giving up only one earned run.
In game two,
Roles were reversed in game two with Berks getting off to the hot start scoring six runs in the first inning.
Trevor Dolin struggled to find his command which led to the big inning by the Lions. Dolin walked four batters and gave up four runs before being pulled after recording only one out.
Over the next five innings the Wildcats clawed their way back into the game closing the gap to 6-4 after the top half of the sixth.
Max Bair pitched well during this stretch, holding the Lions scoreless. Hofmann knocked in the first Wildcat run in the third with a sac fly. Dylaan Scaringi plated a runner in both the fourth and sixth innings, the Wildcats also scored an unearned run in the fourth.
From the bottom of the 6th on the Penn State Berks outscored the Wildcats 13-0 the break the game open. Toby Welk and Troy Salerno lead the way for the Lions with four RBIs a piece.
After 18 hits in the first game Penn College had only four in the nightcap.

Dylan Scaringi each had one.
Penn College returns to action Monday, 4 p.m., at Mount Aloysius.
