Berks Edges Wildcats in NEAC Championship

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Penn State Berks used three runs in the eighth inning to break a 4-4 deadlock and hand Penn College 7-4 setback in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Baseball Championship Sunday at Bucknell University.

Penn College finished the season at 25-13.

The Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a run in the first and second innings before the Wildcats answered in the top of the third.

With one out, Penn College loaded the bases when Dylan Scaringi and Nathaniel Lowe drew walks, and Cody Cline reached on a catcher's interference. Ben Flicker followed with an infield single that scored Scaringi, and Brittan Kittle drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game at 2-2. Evan Vigna plated Cline with a sacrifice hit and put the Wildcats ahead 3-2.

Berks regained its lead, 4-3, with a single and a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.

The Wildcats evened the game for the final time in the fifth inning on Vigna's single to right field that brought home Flicker.

A Berks triple in the eighth put the Lions ahead 6-4 and an RBI single in the same frame made it 7-4.

Flicker led Penn College's offense with a game-high three hits, while Vigna had a team-best two RBIs.

Trevor Dolin fired 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on four hits, with three strikeouts and four walks. Aaron Palmer fell to 3-2 after 2.2 innings of work. He surrendered three runs on four hits, with one strikeout and no walks.
