SUNY Poly Stuns Penn College

Williamsport, Pa – Penn College dropped its North Eastern Athletic Conference opener in heartbreaking fashion Saturday.  The Wildcats fell 2-1 in double overtime to SUNY Poly.  Penn College fell to 2-4-1 overall, 0-1 NEAC, while Poly improved to 4-1, 1-0.

The loss was especially tough for Penn College considering they controlled play for the vast majority of the game.  The Wildcats held an 18-9 advantage in shots and out cornered Poly 12-3.  Penn College just struggled to finish off scoring opportunities.

SUNY Poly scored the games first goal in the 60th minute.  Over the next 17 minutes the Wildcats would force the action in the offensive third.  Penn College had five shots over that time and finally broke through in the 77th minute when Hailee Hartman scored on an assist from Tiffany Brown.  The game seemed destined to end in a tie but with just four seconds remaining SUNY Poly's Nakeya Stedman found the back of the net to give Poly the 2-1 victory.

Taylor Gonzalez had six saves for the Wildcats while Angela Bartlett had five saves for Poly.

Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 7 p.m., hosting Wells College.
