Wildcats Benefit from Second Half Surge

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Penn College used a 37-26 second half to earned its first conference win with a 63-54 victory over Wilson College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Sunday. The Wildcats improved to 1-4 NEAC, 2-11 overall, while the Phoenix fell to 2-4, 6-8.

Jane Herman scored a season-high 20 points for Penn College and grabbed nine rebounds. Tori Wolfe added 13 points and Gwendolyn Lavelle notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Jordyn Day led Wilson with 14 points and Lindsey Purvis netted 11 and grabbed 14 rebounds.

After trailing 28-26 in the first half, Penn College evened the game on a pair of Wolfe free throws early in the third. Wilson answered with a 12-6 run to lead 40-34 with 4:20 on the clock, but Penn College answered with 13-2 explosion to take the lead, 47-42, on a Herman layup with 58 seconds left. Herman led the run with five points and Penn College led 47-44 heading into the fourth.

Wilson's 7-0 run to start the fourth put the Phoenix ahead 51-47 but Penn College answered with 16-3 run to the remainder of the fourth quarter. Herman paced the last run with seven points for Penn College.

The Wildcats return to action Wednesday, 8 p.m., hosting Cazenovia.
