Berks Downs Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn State Berks used a 54-point second half to hand Penn College an 86-59 setback in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Wednesday. The Wildcats fell to 0-3 NEAC, 0-7 overall, while the Nittany Lions improved to 2-1, 3-5.

Madison Klock led Penn College with 11 points on 5 of 15 shooting, while Kaylah Brown and Maci Illgen each netted 10 for the Wildcats. Gwendolyn Lavell and Kiara Fry each grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Kylie Herman scored a game-high 20 points for Berks, while Deanna Daddona and Kaitlyn Armstrong both finished with 19.

The opening six minutes saw the lead change four times and the game tied twice, the final time coming at 3:45, deadlocked at 10-10. Berks ended the final three minutes with 9-3 run to lead 19-13 at the end of the first.

Penn College used an 8-2 run to open the second and tie the game at 21 on Illgen's layup with 7:29 left on the clock. Berks responded with a 9-3 spurt to lead by six before the Wildcats got within one, 30-29, on Klock's layup with 1:51 left. The Lions led 32-29 at halftime.

Penn College pulled within one, twice, the final time on Kiara Fry's layup at 4:42 to make it 45-44. Berks closed out the quarter with a 13-5 spurt to take a 58-49 lead. Berks exploded in the fourth quarter with 23-3 run to gain all the separation it needed.

Penn College returns to action Saturday, 2 p.m., at Elmira College.
