Wildcats 2-1 on the Weekend

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Penn College opened the season with a 2-1 mark on opening weekend in Myrtle Beach. The Wildcats knocked off Lehman College 4-1, and split with New England College, winning 2-1 and falling 10-1, Sunday.

Against Lehman,
Brittan Kittle's single to left in the first inning put Penn College on the board and error made it 2-0 later in the inning. Ben Flicker made it 2-1 in the sixth with a single and another error in the seventh game the Wildcats a 4-1 lead.

Penn College totaled eight hits in the game. Cody Cline, Eli Warren, and Ben Flicker each picked up a pair of hits.

Jed Blankenhorn earned the win with four innings of work, allowing two hits and zero runs, after replacing Max Bair (4 IP, 1 R, 4 H). Brandon Barnyak threw a 1-2-3 final inning to earn a save.

Game One Against NEC,
Penn College loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth after a single from Flicker, a double by Kittle and an intentional walk. Alex Zelger followed by being hit by a pitch, which led to the Wildcats' walk-off win.

NEC went ahead 1-0 in third before PCT evened the game in the fourth on Cole Hofmann's single.

Devon Sanders threw two innings and earned the win, after sitting down four and allowing just one hit. Cody Nelson started the game and fired five inning, with four strikeouts and one hit.

Game Two Against NEC,
Kittle provided the lone highlight for Penn College when he belted a solo home run in the second inning. It was one of just four hits for the Wildcats, with Deric Ellerman providing two hits.

Nathan Holt took the loss after allowing five runs, on nine hits.

Penn College returns to action Monday against Chatham University.
