READING, Pa. – Penn College plated three unanswered runs to knock off Penn State Abington, 3-2, in North Eastern Athletic Conference baseball playoffs Friday. The win advanced the No. 2 seeded Wildcats to Saturday's, 12 p.m., winner's bracket game opposite No. 1 seed Penn State Berks.
The Nittany Lions took an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the third inning before Penn College responded with one in the fifth and two in the seventh.
Colton Riley led off the fifth inning with a double to left and advanced to third on
Deric Ellerman's bunt single. Following an out,
Nathaniel Lowe brought in Riley on a sacrifice fly to left to cut Abington's lead in half.
With two outs in the seventh, Penn College pushed in two more runs. Lowe walked and stole second, before
Alex Zelger's single to left tied the game when Lowe crossed home.
Cody Cline brought in the go-ahead run with a single to right that plated Zelger.
Devon Sanders fired the final two innings, retiring six of seven batters. Sanders earned the save with innings of work, including no hits, two strikeouts and one walk.
Max Bair earned the win after seven innings on the bump. He allowed two runs, on four hits, with five strikeouts and five walks.
