ELMIRA, N.Y. – Penn College cruised to a 14-0 lead and held on, despite 12-0 rally, en route to a 14-12 win over Elmira in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday. The Wildcats improved to 18-11, while the Eagles fell to 7-27.
Penn College led 2-0 in third on RBIs from
Nathaniel Lowe and
Alex Zelger. The Wildcats added five in the fifth, led by
Brittan Kittle's two-run double, a wild pitch, and bases loaded walks from
Alex Zelger and
Cody Cline.
Cline smacked belted an inside-the-park three-run home run in the sixth, before a wild pitch and
Eli Warren's two-run single in the seventh made it 13-0. Elmira scored seven in the eighth before PCT got a run back in the ninth on a wild pitch. The Eagles clawed back in the last frame with seven runs but couldn't get any closer.
Cline, Warren, and
Deric Ellerman all finished with two hits for Penn College, with Cline finishing with four runs batted in, and Zelger, Warren, and Kittle bringing in two.
Penn College threw nine pitchers, with
Devon Sanders improving to 4-0 after two innings, one hit, no runs, and two strikeouts.
Max Conrad picked up his first save when he came in the ninth to get the final out.
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 1 p.m., hosting Penn State Berks.
