WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A goal in the 77th minute lifted Penn College to a 2-1 win over Wells College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's soccer match Friday at UPMC Field. The Wildcats improved to 3-4-3 NEAC, 3-12-3 overall, while the Express fell to 2-13, 5-12.
How it happened: Penn College went on the board first in the ninth minute when Matt Voland boomed a goal kick to Colton Wartman, who beat the keeper to the right side. Wells benefitted from a foul in the box and converted a penalty kick to even the match at 1-1.
The Wildcats netted the go-ahead goal when Chris McFarland sent a pass from the left side to Greg Conkle for a one-touch score and a 2-1 lead.
Inside the Box: Penn College outshot Wells, 16-13, while the Express held an 8-7 edge in corner kicks.
Joshua Stanley picked up the win in goal for Penn College with seven saves.
Outside the Box: Wartman scored his team-leading fifth goal this season, while Conkle netted his fourth.
"We kept our playoff hopes alive tonight," Penn College Tyler Mensch said. "It was a good win for us."
A win on Saturday likely will give the Wildcats the final seed in the NEAC playoffs.
