WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College battled St. Mary's for a scoreless 67 minutes before the Seahawks added a pair of late scores to knock off the Wildcats, 2-0, in a United East men's soccer match Saturday.
St. Mary's improved to 6-1 UE, 12-5 overall, while Penn College fell to 1-3-3, 3-11-4.
How it Happened: The defense for both teams were stout in the first half, resulting in just one shot on goal for each team.
Penn College put two shots on frame early in the first half, but attempts by
Jack Lenosky and
Daniel Jackson in the opening 10 minutes were turned away. PCT keeper
Braeden Eckard kept the game scoreless with impressive saves on four Seahawks' shots through 55 minutes before St. Mary's added its first score in the 67
th minute, and tacked on an insurance goal in the 77
th minute.
Inside the Box: St. Mary's outshot Penn College, 17-7, while the Wildcats held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Eckard finished with five saves in goal for Penn College.
Outside the Box: The Wildcats recognized seven seniors prior to Saturday's contest.
