WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Penn College men's and women's tennis teams split in nonconference matches against Misericordia University on Wednesday with the men winning 9-0 and the women losing by the same score.
How it happened: In men's action, Penn College swept all six singles and three doubles matches in improving to 3-1 overall, while the women's squad dropped six matches in singles and three in doubles to drop to 1-3. In competitive men's matches, the Wildcats won 64 of 72 points.
Inside the box: Winning for the men were Tucker Phillippe-Johansson at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2; Alex Norris at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0; Paul Langbein at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0; Jesse Kight at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1; and Tommy Cavanaugh and Zack Burkhart at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, both by forfeit. In men's doubles, Johansson-Langbein won at No. 1, 8-2; Norris-Cavanaugh won at No. 2, 8-0; and Kight-Burkhart won at No. 3, by forfeit.
For the women, Alexis Youse had the most competitive match at No. 4 singles as she fell, 6-2, 6-3.
