WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Hosting United East Conference newcomer St. Mary's (Md.) College on Saturday, the Penn College men's basketball team fell behind early and never caught up, losing, 68-39. Penn College now is 1-6 overall and 1-1 in the UEC. St. Mary's is 2-4, 2-0.
How it happened: Making 50% of its first-half shots (12 of 24) from the field to just 27% (7 of 26) for Penn College, St. Mary's led 10-2 and 15-4 before Wildcat
Will Sulesky hit buckets that cut the difference to eight at 16-8 and
Corey Blackwell drilled a 3-pointer that again trimmed it to eight at 21-13 with 5:07 until the intermission. St. Mary's then opened 14-point leads twice before halftime.
After trailing 30-19 at the half, Penn College got back within nine at 32-23 on a jumper by
Jesse White with 18:54 on the clock, before St. Mary's went on an 18-4 run to lead by 23 and went on for its 29-point win. For the game, the Seahawks scored 23 points off 18 Wildcat turnovers and outscored Penn College in the paint, 40-16.
Inside the box: Jesse White led Penn College with 10 points and Sulesky grabbed a team-best eight rebounds. Cameron Rucker poured in a game-high 16 points for St. Mary's, while Jordan Goodwin scored 13, Gary Grant scored 11 points and had 13 rebounds, and Elijah Crawford scored 10 points.
