Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College picked up it's first win of the season beating Keystone College 3-1 in a non-conference women's volleyball match Monday evening. The Wildcats improved to 1-3 on the season, while the Giants fell to 1-4 overall.
How It Happened: Penn College beat Keystone in four sets: 25-18, 29-27, 18-25, 29-27.
The Wildcats had a back and forth battle through midway of the first set. With the score tied 13-13,
Hannah Burnett served two aces followed by a
Hailey DeBrody kill to go up 16-13. With set point on the line,
Cheyenne Stein came up with a big kill to clinch the set for the Wildcats and to go up 1-0 in the match.
The Giants regrouped and rallied in the second set and took an early 4-1 lead then went on to increase that lead to 17-10. The Wildcats showed great resilience as they fought their way back in the set to tie the score at 23-23 and then take the lead on a kill by Burnett. With the scored tied again at 27 apiece, Stein helped the Wildcats take a 1-point lead with a kill and then took the set up two points on an error by the Giants.
The Wildcats took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match, but Keystone wouldn't give up as they came back and won the third set, 25-18. Penn College came out strong in the fourth set and took an early 4-0 lead on three straight services aces by Burnett. The Wildcats extended their lead to 16-10 halfway through the set, before the Giants went on a 11-2 run to go up 21-18. Penn College remained focused and poised as they clawed their way back on top with a 24-23 lead on a kill by
Kathryn Burnett. With the Wildcats needing to extend their lead by two points to clinch the set and match,
Sierra Yaggie came up with a monster kill from Stein followed by a Giant error to win the set 29-27 and seal the victory for the Wildcats.
