WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College rallied from a 35-28 halftime deficit to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but Penn State-Harrisburg held on for a 71-66 win in a United East women's basketball game Friday. The Wildcats fell to 2-10 overall, 1-4 United East, while the Nittany Lions improved to 6-4, 1-1.
How it happened: Following an 11-9 first quarter lead, Penn College was outscored, 26-17, in the second and trailed 35-28 at halftime.
The Lion built a 12 point, 48-36, lead with 6:27 left in the third quarter before Maci Illgen and
Ja'Quela Dyer sparked a 7-0 run to pull Penn College within five, 48-43, with 5:21 on the clock. After Harrisburg built its lead back to 52-42, the Wildcats responded with an 11-3 spurt – highlighted by four points each from
Cassi Kuhns and
Aubrey Stetts – to get within two, 55-53, with 40 seconds left in the quarter. Harrisburg hit a pair of late free throws to head into the fourth ahead 57-53.
A jumper by Ilgen and a layup from Dyer to start the fourth tied the game at 57-57, but the Lions answered with a 6-0 run and never trailed the remainder of the game.
Inside the box: Dyer led Penn College with 20 points and 13 rebounds,
Rachel Teats finished with 11 points and 11 baords, and Kuhns added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Jayla Galbreath led Harrisburg with a game-high 22 points.
