Cassada Represents United East at NCAA Convention

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The NCAA held its annual Convention last week at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Representing the United East Conference was Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) Chair, Alex Cassada.

"Just to represent the conference is a huge honor," mentioned the senior men's soccer player from Penn College. "It was interesting to see firsthand how some of the NCAA operations work."

Cassada was joined by SAAC representatives and student-athletes from all over the country as each member of the NCAA was represented at the Convention. There, the reps exchanged ideas about SAAC initiatives as well as thoughts on the legislation that was being proposed. "It really is the pinnacle when it comes to the NCAA," remarked Cassada. "Especially Division III. I didn't really understand how big of a representation we had until I was in a room with just our SAAC representatives."

Cassada and his fellow Division III representatives also had a hand in the legislation decisions. The group, which has been deliberating for months on these proposals, developed their position on each piece of legislation and presented it at the Division III business session.

"It was pretty awesome to see that the student-athlete had a voice among all of the administrators that were there," said Cassada. "It gives us the feeling that Division III is moving in the right direction as a collective."

It was an historic moment for all in attendance as the NCAA as a whole passed the new Constitution. Any changes that come from the new Constitution will be seen in the following months. Division III also voted a number of proposals which can all be found HERE: NCAA CONVENTION
