WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College Assistant Director of Athletics/Head Women's Basketball coach
Britni Mohney was honored with the YWCA Northcentral Pennsylvania Women of Excellence in Sports award Thursday evening.
Since 2009, the YWCA Northcentral PA has celebrated Women of Excellence, which "celebrates strong, creative, and caring change makers who lead by example, embrace civic responsibility, and demonstrate exceptional leadership."
"This nomination recognizes the growth of women leaders in sport. May we continue to break barriers and make it the norm that women can and should lead," Mohney said. "I am grateful for the support and recognition and hope to inspire generations of women to be authentic, unapologetic, and to value their own confidence."
Serving Penn College in a variety of ways, Mohney is dedicated to ensuring that the college maintains gender equity in all aspects of Wildcat Athletics. Mohney served as the Interim Director of Athletics in 2021-22 and helped the department grow and expand.
Mohney developed a women's leadership program for the women's basketball team that invited female leaders to speak with her student-athletes about their leadership journeys. The presenters were given the opportunity to experience the commitment of student-athletes by coming to practice and sitting on the bench during games. Mohney also planned the first Pride event during a women's basketball game that showed support for members of the campus LGBTQIA+ community.
