LATHAM, N.Y. -- Penn College men's cross country runner,
Mitchell Campbell (Riegelsville, Pa.) earned the United East Men's Cross Country Fall Senior Scholar Athlete award. Campbell joins a list of Wildcats to earn the seasonal award which includes, Rosey Thomas (Women's cross country, 2002-03), Kaelynn Sheetz (women's soccer, 2023-24) and Kayleigh Miller (women's basketball, 2024-25), and now moves into the finalist pool for the conference's Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year recognized at the end of the 2025-26 academic year.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have met the following criteria:
- A student-athlete must have a senior or graduate student class standing.
- A student-athlete must be at least in his or her second year of competition at their current institution in any sport.
- Must be a leading contributor to a team's success throughout the duration of his or her career.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Evidence of active leadership and community service involvement throughout collegiate career
Campbell played a large part in pushing the Wildcat men's cross country program into the top tier, helping them win two United East Championships over his four years on the team. Over that time, Campbell made the All-Conference roster every year including three times on the First Team. He took home the bronze medal at the Conference Championship twice ('22 and '23), earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2022. His top 8K time came at the 2023 Mid-Atlantic Regional where he clocked a 26:43.1.
Majoring in Welding, Campbell has posted a GPA of 3.94. His efforts in the classroom have earned him United East Scholar Athlete nods all four years. In the community, Campbell has been actively involved with Penn College's volunteer opportunities including Riverwalk Cleanups, United Feast and a Habitat for Humanity project.
