Wildcats comeback bid falls short in United East semifinals

READING, Pa. – Penn College clawed back from a 3-0 deficit, with a pair of second half scores, but fell 3-2 to Penn State Harrisburg in the United East women's soccer semifinals Friday. The Wildcats concluded its season at 9-9-1, while Harrisburg will take on Penn State Berks in Saturday's 1 p.m. championship game.

How it happened: The Nittany Lions netted a late first half tally to lead 1-0 at halftime. Harrisburg started the second half with a pair of scores in the 50th and 53rd minutes to take a 3-0 lead. The Wildcats missed two chances to add points when Kaelynn Sheetz' shot was just wide in the 57th minute and Willey Egan's attempt in the 62nd minute was stopped.

Penn College got on the board in the 68th minute when Cassie Johnson sent a pass from midfield to Sara Darlington, who scored her 12th goal of the season and the first goal that Harrisburg surrendered to a conference opponent this season.

Johnson nearly added another score in the 70th minute but her strike was punched out by the Lions keeper. PCT made it 3-2 in the 83rd minute when Johnson connected her cross to Darlington to get the Wildcats within one.

Inside the box: The Lions out shot Penn College, 19-8, and held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

Nicole Lichtinger stopped six shots in goal for Penn College.
