MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — Seeking a season sweep against Morrisville State University in its final United East game of the season, the Penn College men's basketball team dropped an 88-78 decision on Saturday. Penn College ends its season 5-18 overall and 5-11 in the conference. Morrisville is 9-16, 6-10.
How it happened: During a first half that saw seven ties, numerous lead changes and neither team up by more than five points, a layup by
Chris Coyne with 2:21 until the intermission put Penn College ahead 38-36 and a
Jesse White layup with 1:11 left extended its lead to 40-37. A pair of White foul shots helped the Wildcats maintain a three-point edge at the half, 42-39.
Morrisville forced ties at 42 and 44 early in the second half before Penn College opened a five-point lead at 49-44 on a
Max Jackowsky layup with 16:29 left, and went out in front by nine at 59-50 on a
Gavin Barrett layup with 12:23 showing. Not to be outdone, the Mustangs rallied to knot the score at 62 with 9:30 to play and then broke back on top, outscoring the Wildcats 26-16 the rest of the way for their 10-point win.
Inside the box: Coyne and Barrett each finished with 19 points for Penn College, Jackowsky scored 14 and
James Ross added 10 points. Coyne was tops with 11 rebounds and Barrett the leader with seven assists.
Michael Litchfield led Morrisville with 26 points and Tron Smith scored 24.
