ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Penn College dropped an 18-5 decision to St. Mary's in the United East men's lacrosse semifinals Wednesday. The Seahawks improved to 13-4, while the Wildcats concluded their season at 9-8.
How it happened: Gage McClune put Penn College on the board first with an unassisted tally 30 seconds into the game. SMC answered with four straight scores to lead 4-1 with 8:41 left in the first. McClune struck again on a feed from
James Thatcher, and Gurein San Agustin followed a Seahawks goal minutes later, to make it 5-3 with 2:08 left in the first.
St. Mary's scored seven straight goals, spanning the next quarter and a half, to lead 12-3 with 5:30 left in the third. Thatcher found
Devin Page with 1:33 remaining in the third, and Brendan Luczma netted an unassisted score with 3:55 remaining in the game, to close out the scoring for Penn College.
Inside the box: McClune led Penn College's offense with two goals and Thatcher added a pair of assists.
James Cella (21 saves) and
Chad Szatkowski (2) combined for 23 stops in goal for the Wildcats.
