HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- Penn College women's basketball dropped a 77-50 final score at Centenary on Tuesday night. The Wildcats fell to 3-8 on the season while the Cyclones improve to 8-3.
How it happened: The Cyclones led wire-to-wire in the win after taking a 10-2 lead over the first three minutes of action. The Wildcats closed the gap when
Allie Troup drained three buckets and
Rachel Teats made it a 15-11 game with a minute remaining in the opening quarter.
Emily Pardee hit two free throws to close the first quarter with a 17-13 Cyclone advantage.
Centenary stretched its lead to 10 before Teats scored the final five points of the half, using an old-fashioned three-point play with tow minutes on the clock, then a layup with 14 ticks left in the second quarter as the Wildcats found themselves within striking distance of the Cyclones, 31-26, at the break.
The Cyclones opened the game in the second half with a 12-0 run to start the third quarter before a Teats' trey stopped the run but it wasn't enough as Centenary outscored the Wildcats, 46-24, across the final two frames for the win.
Inside the box: Teats and
Lexi Troup dropped a team-best 12 points each to lead the Wildcat offense while
Mia Patterson pitched in with a team-high three steals and four rebounds on the defensive end.
Centenary shot 49.3% (35-71) in the game with three double-digit scorers led by 23 points and 13 rebounds from Vatijah Davis.
