READING, Pa. — Penn College wrapped up its season with a 91-90 overtime United East men's basketball win at Penn State Berks on Friday. The Wildcats finish 5-11 in the conference and 10-15 overall. Berks is 5-10 in the UE and 7-15 overall.
How it happened: Penn College led early before Penn State Berks opened a six-point lead at 22-16. The Wildcats came back to tie the score at 25 with 8:10 showing and then closed out the half with a 20-9 burst, with
Gavin Barrett leading the way offensively, for a 45-37 halftime lead.
In the second half,
Will Sulesky foul shots gave Penn College a 47-37 lead and the Wildcats upped it to 13 at 54-41 after a
Max Jackowsky layup before Berks used a 9-0 run to get back into the game and eventually knot it at 77-all with 3:11 showing and again at 81 with 1:25 to go, which is where regulation ended.
Barrett had two layups and a 3-pointer, and Jackowsky added a trey as Penn College outscored the Nittany Lions 10-9 in the overtime period to pick up the "W" and sweep the season series, 2-0.
Inside the box: Barrett finished with 32 points, a personal season high, while
Keon Evans scored 19 and Sulesky had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Penn College's five conference wins match its total for each of the past three seasons under coach Geoff Hensley and the 10 overall wins are a single-season high during Hensley's four seasons at the helm and the most in program history in the NCAA Era.
Josh Gardner topped Berks with 20 points.
