ABINGTON, Pa. – Penn College split a United East baseball doubleheader against Penn State Abington Friday. The Wildcats improved to 5-7 overall, 1-1 UE, after a 13-7 win in the first game and 10-2 setback in the nightcap.
In game one,
Cameron Dick's two-run single in the first put Penn College ahead 2-0 before Abington answered with six in the bottom of the first to take a 6-2 lead. The Wildcats answered with seven in the third when
Shane Price belted a three-run homer, and
Nathan Gustkey's double,
Brian Robison single,
Jacob Carles hit by pitch, and a Price walk all brought in runs and put PCT ahead 9-6.
Tyler Rudolph smacked a solo home run in the fourth and belted a three-run dinger in the fifth.
Price finished with three hits and brought in four runs for Penn College. Robison also picked up three hits, and
Jake Wagner, Dick, and Rudolph added two hits.
Ben Bretzman improved to 1-2 after fiving innings on the mound. He allowed six earned runs, on eight hits, with four strikeouts, and four walks.
In game two,
An error in the first gave Penn College a 1-0 lead before the Lions plated three in the fourth and five in the sixth to build an 8-1 advantage. Price made it 8-2 on a double in the eighth, while Abington added a pair in the eighth.
Jacob Carles finished with two hits for Penn College.
Cole Culver fell to 0-1 after 5.1 innings of work. He allowed seven earned, on eight hits, with five strikeouts, and three walks.
