WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College senior
Kyla Benner struck out her 300
th career batter and Penn College swept Wells College in United East softball doubleheader Thursday. The Wildcats improved to 2-0 UE, 10-4 overall after an 11-0 win in game one, and 17-0 in the nightcap.
In game one,
How it happened: Penn College put together four-run innings in the first and third and added three in the fourth to close out the scoring and Benner tossed a one-hitter.
Inside the box: Hailey DeBrody knocked in two first-inning runs with a double. Skylar Splain plated two more in the third with a single and
Jaylynn Cochran drove in another two in the fourth to back the one-hit, 10-strikeout, no-walk pitching effort of Benner, who improved to 4-1 on the season.
In game two,
How it happened: Benner struck out the first two batters to earn her milestone and Mackenzie Weaver tossed a no-hitter in relief.
The Wildcats scored three in the first, five in the second, six in the third, and three in the fourth.
Inside the box:
Maddie Hurst and Cochran both finished with three hits and three RBI for Penn College, while
Jordan Specht,
Lexi Snyder,
Madison Shaffer and Weaver added a pair of hits.
Weaver improved to 5-2 after 4.1 innings in the circle. She allowed no runs, on no hits, with eight strikeouts, and one walk.
