SCRANTON, Pa. — Top-seeded Penn College turned back second-seed Marywood University, 6-0, to capture its first Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Softball Championship on Saturday. The Wildcats close out their season with a 31-10 record and Marywood ends 27-18.
How it happened: The Wildcats wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with a three-run first inning after Jordan Specht doubled, Lexi Snyder singled, Ivvy Morder plated two runs with a single and Hailey DeBrody drove in Morder with a single.
Penn College increased its lead to 6-0 with a three-run fourth as Specht singled in two runs and Snyder one, and that's how it ended.
Inside the box: Pitcher Mackenzie Weaver went the seven-inning distance, allowing five hits, striking out five and spinning her second tournament shutout to complete an 18-6 season and earn the tournament MVP Award. The Wildcats' defense was flawless behind her, while Maddie Hurst, Specht and Snyder all finished the game with two hits.
