DeGeyter’s PK lifts Penn College over St. Vincent

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Tommy DeGeyter's penalty kick in the 55th minute lifted Penn College to a 2-1 win over St. Vincent in a nonconference men's soccer match Saturday at UPMC Field. The Wildcats improved to 2-2-1, while Bearcats fell to 3-4.

How it happened: A foul in the box led to DeGeyter's PK but his initial attempt was stopped. However, St. Vincent's goalie left early and DeGeyter deposited his second chance to the bottom left corner and put the Wildcats ahead, 2-1.

The Bearcats took an early 1-0 lead when Antonio Mendes fired a penalty kick into the bottom left corner in the sixth minute. The Wildcats netted the equalizer after Brendan Geiger's ball found Mason Beaver in the 32nd minute to tie the game at 1-1.

Both teams had one shot on frame in the second half but Logan Stapleton's header in 53rd minute was stopped and PCT keeper Cole Catherman's save in the 88th minute secured the win for Penn College.

Inside the box: The Bearcats outshot Penn College, 7-5, and held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Catherman finished with two saves.

Up next: Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 7 p.m., at Keuka College.
