ELMIRA, N.Y. — Penn College's women's volleyball team saw its first three-match win streak since 2014 end on Friday in nonconference action at Elmira College, 3-0. Both teams now are 3-5 on the season.
How it happened: In a very tightly played first game, there were 14 ties, the last time at 25-all, when Elmira claimed the next two points to pull out a 27-25 win. At one point, Elmira led by six at 22-16 before the Wildcats took seven of the next eight to knot the score at 23. Elmira grabbed an 8-1 lead in the second game only to see Penn College battle back and tie things at 22 before the Pioneers prevailed 25-22. In the third game, there were ties at 14 and 15 before the Wildcats went on top 18-15. But Elmira closed with a 10-1 run for its 25-19 win.
Inside the box: Penn College leaders were Coryn Oswald with nine kills, Cheyenne Stein with six aces and 22 assists, Lauren Hergert with four blocks and Marianna Dariychuk with 12 digs. Teamwise, Penn College had 37 digs to 34 for Elmira.
