HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Penn College women's basketball fell, 71-27, at undefeated Houghton University in non-conference action on Tuesday. The Wildcats drops to 4-10 on the season while the Highlanders improve to 12-0.
How it happened: The Highlanders defense held the Wildcats to 10 points or less in all four quarters while using an 11-0 run across the first and second quarters to spark the offensive output. PCT leading scorer,
Rachel Teats started the night off with a three for the early 3-2 lead but it was the lone field goal the Wildcats would put away in the opening frame while
Mia Patterson and
Allie Troup added one free throw each.Â
After Troup's free throw at the 2:26 mark, Houghton's 11-0 run went on until a Patterson layup at the 9:36 mark in the second quarter to halt the run. The Highlanders took a 37-15 lead into halftime and led 56-20 after three quarters.Â
Inside the Box: Teats scored a team-best 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. Patterson finished with eight points and five boards. PCT shot just 19.6% (9-46) while the Highlanders hit 41.4% (29-70).
The Highlanders were led by three 11-point scorers in Tabitha DeVries, Crysta LaCrosse and Marley Drake.
