SAINT MARY'S CITY, MD. – Penn College surrendered a halftime advantage in a 79-62 loss against St. Mary's in a United East men's basketball game Friday. The Wildcats fell to 1-2 United East, 4-11 overall, while the Seahawks improved to 2-0, 7-8.
How it happened: St. Mary's held a 25-14 lead, with 10:24 left in the opening half, before Penn College embarked on a 19-7 scoring run to take a 33-32 lead on
David Brown's trey with 2:28 left in the half. The Seahawks briefly regained the lead on the ensuing possession before a layup from Brown, and a
Livingston Cross three, put the Wildcats ahead 38-36 at the break.
The opening seven minutes of the second half featured five ties, and six lead changes, with Penn College's final lead occurring when Cross' layup gave the Wildcats a 48-47 lead with 13:38 left in the game. St. Mary's netted eight straight points and never trailed again.
Inside the box: Cross scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Brown pumped in a career-high 15.
Gavin Barrett finished with 11 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds.
